My Story

As a kid I loathed sports. It just wasn’t my thing. I used to sweat a lot and back then used to get embarrassed about it, now I see it as my body cleansing. But it can also arise from stress and anxiety, something that a lot of people struggle with today. I lost both my parents when I was a young teenager and raised myself so my diet was terrible – ice cream for dinner and breakfast – and basically no understanding of nutrition and how important it is.

At the age of 44 I had a full hip replacement. It was congenital so my hip socket hadn’t formed properly and wasn’t deep enough, no doubt exacerbated by doing martial arts since 1993 and being a lead group fitness instructor at a number of gyms for 10 years. I turned
pseudo vegan in 2008 but my earlier years of poor nutrition had likely contributed to bone degeneration.

Prior to the hip replacement I researched the best herbs and supplements to help deal with the pain, inflammation and mega discomfort. I decided the recommended pharmaceutical drugs were not an option for me. This is what inspired my to study herbal medicine. I was able to manage the pain and still perform a physically demanding grading to achieve my 4th Dan belt in Tae Kwon Do.

This is why my focus is where it is. My passion is helping those that are experiencing what I have and to help guide them towards a management plan that works for them.
